SAU alum Senator Terrence A. Nelson has been elected to serve as a senator for a fifth term in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Nelson, who lives in St. Croix, is a former teacher. Nelson got involved in politics because he noticed the lack of resources in the classroom. He prides himself on being a public school graduate of St. Croix Central High, Class of 1985. While a teacher, Senator Nelson said he would often encourage his students to get involved in the community and expressed the importance of college.

While a student at Saint Augustine’s University, he was a member of the National Black Accountants and the International Students Association. He is also a proud membeer of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

“The university provided me with such a nurturing environment,” he said. “I loved every moment. I truly thank Saint Augustine’s University for making me who I am going to be because I am not finished, yet.”

Senator Nelson is a member of and past president of the prestigious Henry Toll Fellowship, Class of 2007, and also holds leadership certificates from the Eastern Leadership Academy and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He earned a bachelor’s of science degree in accounting from Saint Augustine’s University in 1989.
