2022 Constitution Day Program

September 16, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The event is open to all students, staff, and faculty and will take place in the Seby Jones Auditorium.

Constitution Day is the day we celebrate the formation and formal signing of the U.S. Constitution (September 17, 1787). The purpose of Constitution Day is to help us remember how the constitution shaped and continues to shape our laws, values, and beliefs.

This year Constitution Day will focus on the recent Dobbs case and questions about personal rights and freedoms. We will hold a student-led panel discussion about how this recent decision raises additional questions about the role of religion in law-making, individual rights and responsibilities, and the psychological impact resulting from rulings such as this.

The event will be held on Friday, September 16, in the Seby Jones Auditorium from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The culmination of this event will be an essay competition. Four winners will be selected–one first-year, second-year, third-year, and fourth-year student. Essays should be a maximum of 5 pages and should focus on one or more of the questions above.

Essays should be submitted by September 23.

Winners will be announced on September 30.

***Cash Prizes are awarded to the best essay submitted from each class. Attend the event to find out more information
