Falcons earn All-American Honors
Eleven Saint Augustine’s University student-athletes earned 18 All-American men’s indoor track & field honors according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
To win All-American honors, a student-athlete has to finish among the top eight in his individual or relay event at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. His school must also be a USTFCCCA member.
St. Aug, the NCAA Men’s Indoor Champion, led all Division II schools with the most All-American accolades. Senior Joshua Edmonds (Jacksonville, FL) was one of three male student-athletes in the nation to claim three All-American awards.
Senior DeJon Wilkinson (Summerville, SC), the national long jump and triple jump champion, was one of five Falcons who won two All-American awards. The others were senior Roxroy Cato (Jamaica), sophomore Jermaine Jones (Wilmington, NC), sophomore Burkheart Ellis, Jr. (Raleigh, NC) and junior David Shaw (Red Springs, NC).
Below is the list of St. Aug Men’s All-Americans and their respective events:
Roxroy Cato – 400 Meters, 4×400 Relay
Moussa Dembele – 60 Meter Hurdles
JaQuan Demiel – Long Jump
Joshua Edmonds – 200 Meters, 400 Meters, 4×400 Relay
Burkheart Ellis Jr. – 200 Meters, 4×400 Relay
Jermaine Jones – 60 Meters, 200 Meters
Ty’reak Murray – 60 Meter Hurdles
James Quarles – 4×400 Relay
David Shaw – Long Jump, Triple Jump
Eddie Shelton – High Jump
DeJon Wilkinson – Long Jump, Triple Jump
Three women student-athletes also won All-American indoor track & field awards according to the USTFCCCA. They were freshman Shakinah Brooks (Raleigh, NC), junior Brittni Finch (Centreville, VA) and junior Kandace Thomas (Canton, OH).
Brooks was selected an All-American in the long jump and Finch claimed All-American honors in the triple jump. Thomas was named an All-American in the 60 meters.
